About the Show

Cast on a Hot Tin Roof
was created and directed by Mark Gagne, who founded The Free Associates Theatre Company in Chicago in the early 1990s. The current production is directed by Mary Fahey Hughes and stars many of the original actors and actresses.

Having admired the work of the Free Associates for years, Vicki Quade approached the group for the rights to remount this Tennessee Williams parody and opened a production in 2004 at Noble Fool Theater in downtown Chicago. When that theater closed its doors, she moved Cast on a Hot Tin Roof to the Royal George Theatre in Chicago, where it has settled in to an extended run.
This incredibly talented cast seduces the audience into fits of laughter while exploring Williams’ themes of human frailty, the fatalistic undercurrents of Southern society, and the redeeming power of personal connection. Williams’ stock characters and situations, combined with suggestions that the audience is encouraged to shout out, assist the cast in affectionately skewering the playwright’s own literary pretensions and affectations.
